  • The Low Impact Functional Exercise program is designed with seniors (55+) in mind. Aiming to improve joint health, range of motion, balance, strength, coordination, and flexibility instructor Cathy Grad leads the group through a one-hour workout involving light weights and resistance bands.

    We recognize all bodies are different and all people have different needs, as such exercise adaptations are available to ensure the class meets your needs.

  • Our Chair Yoga program, led by Cathy Grad, is a gentle approach to yoga, helping you stretch and build strength while moving through a variety of poses; both seated and standing. Cathy creates a calming atmosphere, using breathing exercises and mindfulness techniques to promote relaxation, healing, and resiliency.

    We recognize all bodies are different and all people have different needs, as such exercise adaptations are available to ensure the class meets your needs.

  • An afternoon of card games, refreshments, and fun. Come for a game of Cribbage, Skip-Bo, or Kitchen Bridge.

    Players of all skill levels are welcome.

  • Coffee Break (in the Campbell Center) - 10 AM - 12 PM

  • Pickleball (in the gymnasium) - 1 PM - 2:30 PM

  • A morning of card games, refreshments, and fun. Come for a game of Cribbage, Skip-Bo, or Kitchen Bridge.

    Players of all skill level are welcome.

  • First played in the 1960’s, Pickleball has recently become a favorite sport among seniors. A racquet sport, similar to tennis or badminton, pickleball will get you on your feet, exercising, and bonding with your peers.

    Whether you’re brand new to the game, or just looking for a non-competitive environment to practice your skills, our pickleball program is open to all seniors.

    Equipment provided.

THURSDAY PROGRAMS at 6225 Summit Street (Faith City Church)

 
  • Active Living for Seniors - 10 AM - 11:30 AM

  • BINGO & Trivia (VIRTUAL ONLY) - 1 PM - 2 PM

  • Active living is not just about exercise, it’s also about keeping your brain active and engaged. We being our Active Living for Seniors program with a half hour of seated exercises, focusing on stretching & strengthening your muscles, followed by informative presentations or videos on topics relevant to seniors.

    Past presentation topics have included: Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy, Financial Elder Abuse, Falls Prevention, and information on local non-profits such as Elder Dog.

  • Join us for an hour of fun and games on ZOOM. We kick the program off with a few rounds of BINGO, followed by 20 – 25 minutes of curated trivia.

  • Walking Group (in the gymnasium) - 10 AM - 11 AM

  • Seniors Resource Drop-In (in the Campbell Center) - 1 PM - 2:30 PM

  • Start your Friday off on a high note. We start our indoor walking program off with 15 minutes of seated stretches to get you loosened up, then we put on some music and you are free to walk around the gym at your own pace.

    The program is accessible to those with assistive devices.

  • Everyone needs help sometimes, at our seniors resource drop-in program it’s our pleasure to assist you with a variety of things such as: grant and benefit applications, application and registration for programs, and even technology.

    Bus tickets are available to those who attend the program, as well as a supply of meal replacement drinks.

  • Gladstone Street

    Join our monthly Knitting Club for the chance to create, learn, and share with a group of your peers. Knitters of all skill levels welcome.

  • 7 PM - 8 PM via ZOOM

    Join us the last Thursday of the month for a virtual movie night, brought to you in partnership with the National Film Board. This screening series focuses on short films and documentaries by and about Canadians and life in Canada.

    Each months film will be announced in advance via our mailing list and on our monthly calendar.

    Access to affordable, healthy food is fundamental to a high quality of life. In partnership with Square Roots - Fairview/Clayton Park, with funding from the United Way, we are please to offer free bi-weekly produce delivery to seniors in the Halifax Regional Municipality.

    Through this program participants receive a 10 LB bag of produce (primarily a mix of root vegetables) delievered right to their door.

  • Are you interested in using your crafting skills to provide for local children? Look no further than our Smitten for Mittens program. Through a partnership with iNova Credit Union we provide yarn to knitters all over the HRM, which they use to knit mittens for children. These mittens are gathered up and then donated to local elementary schools to be distributed to students.

  • Through a partnership with Get Everyone Online Nova Scotia, we are able to provide program participants with support in getting new devices and free internet accounts several times a year.

    When devices and internet accounts are made available participants can apply by contacting Kathleen (Executive Director) by email: [email protected] or by telephone, 902-410-7162.

We have a limited amount of bus tickets available if anyone needs assistance with transportation to and from our programs. We can also waive fees if cost is a barrier to participating in any program. Please speak to Kathleen or Samantha if you require this support.
